664 Happy belated MLKJ-day

These jelly bean portraits were done by the late Peter Rocha. He’s used to work for Jelly Belly as an artistic ambassador, of sorts.
Free pager for anyone can spot the common thread between all the pictures (beside them all being made of jelly beans).
649 Resurrection of the Rat

Super great insect/carcass sculptures by Tessa Farmer. Check out her site for more. Also, snippet of a stop-motion movie she made called “Nest of the Skeletons”. Video after the break.

You all know that I love Monster Brains, I link to it semi-religiously. This new post of German pulp scifi covers are raising my interest in the blog to near plagiaristic levels; I’m just going to repost all their stuffs on combustion injun, then maybe Aeron will notice me.

614 There’s no basement in the Alamo

Update: also snakes.

If anyone knows who the original artist is, let me know.
596 For those of you brave enough to put combustion-injun into your browser history
The Internet is an ancient world, the face of which has been slashed and burnt. We’ve all been forced into the holding cells of facebook and myspace and diaryland. Our images must be put into tidy albums, our hypertext brutally ripped from our comments. But there once was a time when a man’s mettle was proven by the fire of his html and the bravado of his animated gifs.
It is in this spirit that I give you the newest addition to the sparse layout of combustion injun: .gifs corner. You will find no Flash®, but there will be ritz and glamour; the profound simplicity of the CompuServe Graphics Interchange Format, circa 1987.
Each new page, and every refresh will bring you a new magical talisman from a bygone era. If you would like to add to this standing monument, send me your files, and you too can join with me in this silent ovation.

Forget rose-colored glasses, I want 50 x 50 glasses.
544 Dagger of Longinus
Confiscated from an inmate in a German prison. Mister Steinmetz has a great series of photos of crazy contraband found in prisons during, like, the 80′s. For example, some zany dudes built a shotgun out of bedposts, batteries, and masking tape, took a guard hostage and got out of jail – for free! Talk about being thrifty.

Collectible monster-style trading cards set my tender heart aflutter. If you could get me a set of these physical cards – real-life, palpable monster cards – I would do something in my pants. Maybe pee, maybe shit, maybe the other thing.
512 Hello, dolly.
488 Koolaid guy’s ulteriorly purposed wall smashes

I came across the comic by Jon Vermilyea on my new favoritest of weblogs, Monster Brains. Koolaid guy is so selfless in his quest to rid the world un-fun juice boxes and bring a sweet party-time to all the worlds childrens. Follow the tale to it’s grimm conclusion after the jump.

I just now discovered Louie Cordero. There is a Flickr gallery of a show he did. I’m really digging his monstery style. Very reminiscent of Rat Fink.
I found the link on Monster Brains, which is also worth a look. It’s got some great monster art. It’s going into my regular perusal pile.
