Aside from his prescient view of not returning back once one has gone black, Thomas Jefferson had a grip on some of the fated downfalls of free market capitalism.  He mentions “fictitious capital,” the exposed worthlessness of the bulk of debt, such as is currently driving us into depression.  Oh, and get this: “fictitious capital” was a term also used quite commonly by KARL MARX!

Jefferson refers to our banking system as “so certain of leading to abuse, as to be utterly incompatible with the public safety and prosperity.”  If I’ve said it once I’ve said it over one hundred thousand times, capitalism has proven nothing but it’s ability to consistently fail and leave it’s subscribers to turn to socialist means of restructuring.  Why then do we always return to capitalism’s blighted teat? (I think Jefferson coined that phrase as well)

Also, if anyone has a copy of Marx’s “Capital,” I’m looking to read it and would go goo goo bananas if anyone would borrow me a copy.
