The Shining has long been my favorite Stanley Kubrick film.  Mainly because Shelley Duvall is one hot minx.  I dare you to watch Popeye and not want to make it with Olive Oyl’s long bones.

Though wordy and esoteric, this article on the physical cosmologies fused into the film really changed the way I view the movie; worth even a glance.  Much of the story’s mythology and history is told through visual symbolism.

I also found a bookstore selling “All Work and No Play Makes Jack a Dull Boy” a postmortem published novel by Jack Torrence.  A great read for your next long flight.

Confiscated from an inmate in a German prison.  Mister Steinmetz has a great series of photos of crazy contraband found in prisons during, like, the 80′s.  For example, some zany dudes built a shotgun out of bedposts, batteries, and masking tape, took a guard hostage and got out of jail – for free!  Talk about being thrifty.

Tuvan throat singing.  The high pitches are harmonic overtones that resonate to produce the melody.  I can’t believe these guys aren’t still the world’s largest empire.  A couple more examples after the break.
